house temperatures

I got me one of those new fangled thermostats that sets itself to different temperatures at different times of the day (Digistat 3).

What sort of temperatures do people find work well?

I'm thinking maybe 16 degrees c overnight, 22 degrees in the morning,

18 degrees during the day then 22 degrees in the evening. Weekends would be much the same.

Does this sound about right?

I was thinking of getting something like that. Are they easy to install for a non-electrician?

Easy to fit. I have a Honeywell Centaur Stat 7. I have Morning 21 Daytime 19 (whilst out) Evening 22 Night 18 (it rarely comes on - only if it is really freezing outside)

Boiler Timer left on 24 hours

I work from home and find the following suits me:

Morning 23, Day 22, Eve 23, Night 20.

It's a bit high at night cause I stay up late, and often get up for an hour or so during the night.

Not too bad for a start, maybe a degree or two high if you want to do your bit to combat Global Warming. It all depends how you use the house, as we are "in" throughout the day, we would miss out the lower daytime temperatures.

Reduce each temperature slowly till people start complaining

22 sounds too much. 18-20 would be more like it.

Ours is 13 during the day, unless there are others in the house when it's reduced.

10 at night.

But we have excellent insulation and draught-proofing and don't walk around in flimsy clothes, we also don't spend much time sitting down except at the dining table three times a day and the computers.

Spouse spends most of his time in the garage, if it's very cold he has an infra red heater - thanks to whoever recommended it on here.

IMHO also depends on whether the he has a SWMBO or not: if so that will bang 5 degrees on to the 'optimum' temperature for a start... :-(

It has three terminals, two of which are used in my application.

Well, sometimes people are in during the day, sometrimes not. Unfortunately, when people are in they tend to keep opening and closing the front door, hence the need for slightly higher temperatures.

I bought a Screwfix model which has 5+2 day capability and four time zones. On reflection I'd preferred to get say a six time zone per day unit, just for extra flexibility (such as having a pre-warm time before morning and evening periods).

The temperatures I've got it set at are 16 degrees overnight, 21 in the morning,

17 through the day and 21 in the evening.

Neat bit of kit though; wish I'd got one years previously.

Luckily *my* SHWO is not from the tropics so likes the place 'cool'. ;-)

She also rides a motorcycle and enjoys cycling and camping (and she's no spring chicken) so maybe that's something to do with it?

And going through the 'change' means she carries her own furnace with her and the stat aint controllable! ;-(

All the best ..

p.s. We are in training for when the energy runs out and central heating will be a luxury few will be able to afford .. ;-)

You mean to tell me you can actually notice a difference of ONE degree ??? And that the thermostat is that accurate ??

Wow! you are really sensitive :-)

Why reduce it if there are others in the house? 13 is 13 regardless of how many people are around!

Unless of course your stat doesn't control your CH very well (e.g. wrongly located)..?

That sounds like the Voice of Experience.

In this house it's the other way round.

Not all women are like yours - perhaps not all men are like mine either.

And she's NOT called Mary Fisher :-)

I'm WAY beyond the 'change'.

But, T i m, you've proved that I'm not unique.

Build a porch.

In our house it's the back door, but I've taken steps to ensure that we don't get the full force of Outside.

No - other people make the temperature rise. They're all exuding heat.

Especially when drinking, which they normally are here.

Not at all, it's brand new (well, two weeks old) and perfectly located.
