Given a choice, I'd go for one which did. Strange that there are very few (if any) diesel mowers - of walk-behind type, anyway.

diesel simply needs a wick bit of rag will do
We have a butane cylinder at our stables for coffee. In the winter, and especially when the cylinder is low, the pressure falls dramatically when "cooking". It is on my job list to make a little stand so that I can mount a tea light underneath it.
Probably because there aren't many small diesel engines. I can can carry my own 1kW petrol genny.
That depends on whether you call 49kg small. There are air cooled Yanmar powered generators.
Hatz also make lightweight engines that are used for generators.
Even portable diesel generators has compression levers.
You obviously have an issue over diesels.
Not really. Heavier, harder to start, more expensive to make and who really cares about the fuel consumption of their mower? Most folk want cheap, easy starting engines. We have those.

When I worked on Highways in the late 60s that was how we started the roller.

During the 62/63 winter lots of diesel vehicles were started this way, mainly because the diesel goes waxy below a certain temperature.
