Yesterday, the troublesome homeplug packed up - no lights at all, dead as a dodo.
It seems reasonable to assume the "phantom" homeplug network issue was a symptom of impending failure.
At least I didn't have to go into space to replace it ;)

And it did not burn a dirty great hole in the carpet, presumably.
I'vealways had reservations about stuff that connects signal leads to a device so small in a mains socket. The old intercoms that used the mains used to have a tendency to selfdestruct as did the extenders for infra red remotes.
