Gripping (to turn) a 110mm dia pipe, without speacialist tool?

Can anyone share any tricks for gripping a 110mm PVC pipe, in order to turn it? It's a section of underground soil pipe. I'm wondering if a piece of r ope with a lever attached could somehow be used. As the ends of the pipe ar e held in couplers, it's not proving possible to turn it with bare hands.

Thank you

A strap wrench would grip better on PVC, and perhaps be kinder to the surface.

get a strap-on boss and solvent weld and clamp it onto the pipe.

Now you have something to get grip on.

Thanks to all for the great suggestions. I thought I had one of those belt- wrenches, but of course, now that I need it, it is nowhere to be found!

Presumably to align a branch fitting to meet another pipe

Rope ... couple of half hitches should grip OK .. if it slips put a piece of sandpaper between rope & pipe.

Or a good material would be a 50mm webbing strap with a ladder lock buckle ... like rucksack straps.
