Hi,As you may have read in my other posts, I am considering replumbingthe water. I thought that while I have the floorboards up, I mightchange the toilets to fill from the cold water tank rather than themains. I know that 99.9% of the time this is unnecessary but recently ourwater was cut off unexpectedly and my first thought was how can I havea cup of tea and my second was, what if someone needs the toilet?I know some people here have done this. What was your experience? Doesit dramatically slow the time taken to refill the cistern? That couldbe a concern because we have those silly water saving toilets thatrequire more than one flush, so don't save water! Do you remove theflow restrictor (or whatever it is called) from the inlet?Would it be a good idea to run as much as possible in 22mm pipe toincrease flow? Is there a chart somewhere showing flow rates fordifferent pipe diameters (I realise it will be affected by the numberof turns and tees etc) or will 15mm be good enough?TIA

It was once common practice to do this.You will need a low pressure jet on your float valve so it fills in reasonable time.It has a bigger hole in the jet. Or drill out your existing jet (sopposing there is enough "meat on it")

That's what I feared, which is why I was asking ;)

It has occurred to me that the hot water tap works is gravity fed and is plumbed in 15mm, so on that basis, I hope the toilet will be ok too.

A one off over 10 years ago. The "lids" that I disposed of where sheets of 3/4" thick expanded polystyrene and plastic sheeting over the large gaps. I bought proper tight fitting lids and fitted a water bylaw kit (screened overflow etc). Mains water is pretty clean, these tanks are well covered, think I looked in 'em a few years ago lovely and clean.

Forgot that I actually ran a separate 15mm pipe from its own connection on the tank to the bathroom cistern.

Thought being that it would avoid affecting anything else - like shower feed.
