Can anyone help my friend - he is having a kitchen re-fitted and want to hide his boiler. It is a balanced flue type so I would think it can be boxed in - leaving a few inches for air circulation . Has anyone got a set of instructions so that I can offer specific advice? It is floor standing.

In the absence of other data. You will need 4.5cm^2 /kw on heat input. - It's likely an 80kBTU/hr boiler i.e. 24kW so you will need around 220cm^2 of vents both at the top and bottom level. This will be need to be direct to outside. If you vent to the room this will need to be DOUBLE. i.e. 440cm^2 vents at low and high level. No point in having a door to the cupboard really.
Also you will need 75mm clearance to any combustible surface.
All this should make you go looking in the manual to see if there are some lesser restrictions.
