Gas fire - products of combustion in the attic

Had a look round a property yesterday with a view to purchasing. It had a living flame'-type fires, and on close inspection found a notice on it saying it's been condemned due to products of combustion being detected in the attic.

I'm assuming this means the gasman's popped a smoke pellet up the chimbley and then found smoke in the roof space? How hard is this likely to be to sort out: is it going to be a case of dropping a copex liner down the chmimney? If so, or not, is that very expensive?

At this stage, just wondering how big an issue this may be, really...

Thanks David
