Garage door painted with sandtex!!! how to remove?

Sep 22, 2003 2 Replies

One of the previous owners of my house had painted the double garage doors with Sandtex (spit, spit).

I now want to get rid of it and put a smooth hard wearing finish on it instead of one that catches all the kack and takes your skin off if you rub against it.

I thought about getting one of those paint removing wheels (plastic ones) that fit to an angle grinder and giving that a go.

However, before doing something that I might regret later, I thought I would check here.

Any suggestions?

Not sure, but wouldn't the sandtex wear out the paint removing wheel rather quickly?

Nitromors? Usually a chemical weapon on the paintwork can reduce the work content rather a lot.

Or hows about a heatgun to melt the old paint off?

PoP

I'd say nitromors and a pressure washer off hand - never tried it tho.
