Freestanding pole for washing line

our present end of garden (nowhere at all to use a convenient wall) washing line pole is looking a bit .... leaning. It's a steel tube which was embedded in a block of concrete.

Can anyone suggest a better replacement ? I've seen these massive screw type plates for posts and stuff at B&Q. Are they any good ? Is there an alternative ?

We just use a couple of scaffolding poles bashed in with a sledge hammer. Takes good balance on the top of a step ladder.

Concrete clothes line post Mine has not moved in 40 years (since house was built)

Dad has a length of scaffold pole set in concrete not moved in about the same time

We have two of them which were the same - leaning due to not much concrete around the sunken length. Decided to straighten them up last year and re-concreted them in properly and level ....... gained another 10 feet of hanging space!

The ones available, the same as you have, now come with a sleeve, approx

18" long which is cemented into the ground, the pole then slides into the sleeve, and can be taken out if required. If there is enough concrete around the sleeve, then it will not move. Alan.

Is the only fault the fact it has a lean? In which case dig the soil out on one side to get it upright again and fill the created void opposite with Post Fix and the inevitable other gaps. I doubt it will move again.

Maybe worth a try ... trouble is SWMBO decided a tree would look nice in the corner of the garden, just in front of the pole, which is about 6" from the fence ....

Dump the pole, use the tree.
