fluorescent fittings without ballast

Anyone know where you can obtain fluorescent fittings without ballast? I will need 5 foot T8 holders I can fix to the wall to be used with a separate dimmable ballast. I've seen "gear trays" available from specialist suppliers with flex to T8 end caps, but you probably pay over the odds and then there would be the issue of attaching the tubes to the wall. Thanks, Simon.

some plastic covered clips to hold the tube to the wall would do the job, if the fittings and wiring to the external ballast can be hidden.

I read it as him wanting the mountings because the gear will be elsewhere, not that it won't exist at all.

When using separate ballast, usually the tube is mounted on 2 tool clips.

Those spring loaded clips that you push the tube into ? I never liked those since I was worried they could break the tube as you push past the constricted part. I'm sure I'm worrying about nothing ! Cheers, Simon.

Buy ones with cheap ballasts and chuck out the ballasts/starters. Fit the dimming ballast in place. Ideally, you want some 0.5mm single core 90C PVC to rewire the fitting, as there's never enough wire left when converting from switchstart to electronic. To remove the existing wire from the push-in/back-stab terminals, apply gentle pulling force whilst unscrewing the wire.

You won't find anything cheaper because of the rules of supply and demand.

Makes sense. Minor snag. I'll be using a dual ballast to control 2 tubes, but the tubes will be end to end, not side by side. Ideally the ballast will be mounted between the 2 tubes to follow the requirement to keep certain wires short and equal in length. I could probably mount the ballast in one and wire it to the other.

Also, thanks for the wire spec. Is 90C the temperature ?

Simon.

We were somewhere around Barstow, on the edge of the desert, when the drugs began to take hold. I remember sm_jamieson saying something like:

Good old Terry Clips.
