Did the repair with 18mm chipboard .. put a layer of 1mm foam underlay over depressed sections before laying new carpet underlay.
Found the 2 broken boards had a reason instead of the T&G join (board edge being on centre lie of joist it was about 3 mm off the edge of joist - so unsupported. Failed at those points.
