Flooring on DIY SOS

Apr 24, 2009 7 Replies

Hi all

Did anyone see DIY SOS last night to know what the flooring is they used? Looked like wood flooring but was like thick lino strips. Wondered if anyone has used it to know if it is worth considering - from a POV of ease of fitting, appearance, durability etc. Does it need to be fitted under skirting for expansion?

SWMBO fancies wood (look) flooring and having had damp issues in the hall, this stuff may be preferable to solid/laminate in my case.

TIA

Phil

Didn't see the programme, but sounds like it might be Karndean/Amtico to me.

Likewise, I didn't see it, but does sound like Karndean or Amtico. We have Amtico in 2 bathrooms and downstairs hallway/cloakroom/office and soon to be in the kitchen .. Comes in either wood effect or tile effect. Think it's about 7.25" x 48" (width x height). 10 year commercial or 15 year domestic guarantee although think requires specialist fitting for the guarantee to stand.

Did you fit it yourself? Does it need to be fitted under skirting for expansion?

TIA Phil

Amtico. All the Woolies stores used it, a lot of people thought it was real wood - including some cleaning contractors.

One of the guys who quoted for my Amtico flooring had recently done a re-fit where someone had actually dived in with a sander!

impermeable coverings only make damp floors worse. They prevent any evaporation.

No I didn't fit it myself. Requires specialist fitting to enforce the 15 year guarantee. It is not wood so doesn't expand / contract, it looks like thick lino.
