Floor standing uplighters (low level)

Nov 16, 2004 1 Replies

I used to own a 'tin can' (for want of a better description) that took a normal filament spot bulb and was designed to sit on the floor as an uplighter. It cost me no more than a couple of quid. I've mislaid it somewhere in life but now need something similar. Actually i'm looking for 3 of them. Appearance isnt a primary concern as they'll be hidden from most places in the room.

However, all i can find now are a halogen version by Floodlite that's at the bottom of the page here:

They're over £40 each and I suspect that they're not dimmable (no info on the instructions in John Lewis when i looked).

Can anyone suggest a source of something similar but cheaper?

Made several for some friends a few years ago out of pot drainage pipes. Used 12V halogens with the transformer in the base and the light in a cut out in a bit of aluminium sheet cut to the size of the drainpipe and pushed a bit down inside it. Total cost was under a tenner each.

Still working well.
