Fixing mixer tap to washbasin

What's the easiest way to fix a washbasin mixer tap so that it doesn't slowly loosen itself and start to rotate when using the taps.

Got one of these -

- Is there a "correct" way of tightening up the threaded bar and nut/washer - or do I just "glue" it all together with loads of silicone?

Loading thread data ...

Does it have a fully threaded rod going down through the basin and then a hefty C-shaped washer and long hex nut underneath?

If necessary, shorten the threaded rod so that it doesn't extend too far below the nut, and then use a socket spanner on the nut.

[The threaded bar probably has a slot at one end to enable you to screw it into the tap with a screwdriver. If you need to shorten it, cut some off the *other* end - and screw the shortened end into the tap.]

Don't *over*-do it, though - you don't want to crack the basin!
