Fence Post Removal

FYI

Had to remove several wooden fence posts today. First one snapped off at more or less ground level when brute force was applied and was a bugger to dig out - 60cm into the ground.

Developed a cunning plan for the next one. Drilled a blind hole 25mm dia about 10cm up from ground level. A couple of bricks and a 'demolition crowbar' ( 150cm long heavy steel bar, point one end, chisel the other).

Point in hole and my manly bulk applied to the other end - and to my delight the post came directly upwards without falling apart. Drilled another hole & levered it up even more until I could pull it out. Tried it on the next one and that worked as well. Saved me a lot of digging!

Probably helped by the rain of late, not sure it would work in bone dry soil, but worth a try.

For really tight concrete posts I used a rope hitch around the post and looped onto the toe of a farm jack.

Last time I tried a trick like that my manly bulk bent the crowbar! (not sure if that is a comment on the bulk, or the quality of the bar.

Nice tip, by the way!
