Yebbut, it's not the cable to plug contact which is the issue - it's plug to socket contact, which is unlikely to be any different with your old MK plug. What *may* be better though is that the old MK may have a more robust fuse holder, reducing the risk of poor fuse to plug contact.
MK made even better ones than that in the 1960s. They initially had spring loaded shrouds, that sunk back into the plug body when plugged into a socket

Are you sure? In my experience I find the pass through a hole and screw down sort of terminals can sometimes work loose over time.

Yes, they allow plenty of surface area in the 'wire to pin' connection - far more than in the grubscrew type.
Whenever I've had plugs overheat, it has invariably been down to the springy metal strips in the socket, which don't grip the pins tightly enough.
I vote for a loosened fuse contact over the live pin, with the fuse end being oxidised to black. Seen that many times.
A rare one: the cable grip being overtightened, causing strands of L or N to break, the fewer strands getting even hotter, and breaking more quickly. Eventual loss of contact if the current is low enough not to cause a fire. Some people think they must tighten the cable grip as hard as they can.

The ones I remember did not And some still do not.
MK have seem to have two ranges of switches and sockets - one of their ranges is the in the race to the bottom being made in China to compete equally with the cheap Chinese made s*it from other brands.
The MK Essentials Chinese made s*it is somewhat s*it!

They did launch a 'cheapo' range made in China, but I remember lots of those being recalled/withdrawn, surprised the range still exists.
Their welsh factory shut down, but they still have one in Southend
