The thought occurs to me that if I'm going to use EPS as insulation, with a sheet of Visqueen between the EPS and plasterboard finish, I will have to run cable between the Visqueen and the plasterboard. Is that sufficient protection for the cable? If not, what is?
EPS (polystyrene) insulation and electrical cables (barrier).

It ought to be ok. In contact with the back of the PB is also better for thermal dissipation from the cable as well.
Last time I did any wiring like that I used oval conduit for the cable in proximity to the EPS.
You are correct EPS should not be in contact with PVC cables - it damages the cable and makes it brittle
Visqueen is the perfect solution to this problem.
