Energy Tariffs

I have just had emails from British Gas confirming details of my new tariffs from this month, gas and electric payments up by about 50%.

However, all previous correspondence said that I am on a fixed tariff until 31/12/2022.

I find this while thing very confusing, can anybody throw any light on it please? I did try and contact them via chat but was 85 in the queue so decided not to hang on.

Is it definitely *your* new tariffs rather than *the* new tariffs (for new customers)? If you signed up to a fixed tariff deal I would have thought that they have to honour that.

Depends if his fixed tariff is above or below the energy price guarantee?

I'm not on a fix so haven't followed the politics of it closely, but I though there was pressure on the energycos to reduce fixed contracts to the cap prices?

But his has INCREASED substantially.

Which is probably true for anyone coming off a fixed price contract that had been running for a year or more.

I think he's talking about his direct debit payment amounts increasing?

Those often seem to be calculated based on unit price, amount consumed, shoe size, house number and last week's lottery numbers.

But he isn't due to come off it till the end of the year.

He said tariffs, and direct debit payment amounts wouldn't normally hike by 50% when on a fixed tariff as he is.

He also said "payments"
