Emulsion Problems .

I posted before about trouble I was having with emulsioning on plasterboard on one wall of my bathroom, the other walls being fine ..The coating had what looked like pinholes in areas .I sanded it down and repainted it but they were still showing so I sanded it again and have just coated it again .there are still areas where this is sjowing .The wall is a long wall between the door and the window and that seems to make it show more .It is not apprent when it is later and the light is on .

Is there anyhting you can suggest to resolve this other than sanding it down again as that is extremely messy as you can imagine . Would a coat of paint which has been thinned down help .I'm at a loss to think why it has happened .

Could be a moisture resistant plasterboard. Never seen it, but I believe it's impregnated with paraffin wax, which would account for the emulsion not taking too well. Try a coat of oil based undercoat. If that bonds ok, you should be able to emulsion over that

These are only ideas, as we dont know whats causing it:

  1. if its grease, cleaning it with caustic soda solution should remove it, then neutralise with vinegar.
  2. You may find stain block pains handle this sort of situation relatively well, so a layer before emulsioning may also solve it.
