And I was quite taken by the bracket through the window idea, but in the end I decided that the expense and work needed to put a window in then block it up afterwards probably wasn't worth it.

*There's* an idea: just put in a window, and *then* drill a 10 mm hole through the window frame using a wood bit! Run the cable through that. Can't be more than a 40 mm run in the wood. Easy. Simple. Got that settled then!
All this faffing about with a SDS drill when a standard 10 mm wood drill in a rechargeable would have been enough all along!

They rarely need it. An SDS is a rotating chisel more than a cutting edge. It just has to be "pointy", rather than "sharp".
If you look at the (excellent and recommended) Bosch "Construction" drills, these are a classic masonry drill pattern except that their carbide tips are indeed sharpened to a cutting edge. They're good for rotary drilling of abrasive stuff, or for hammer drilling with a non-SDS cordless.
If I do need to sharpen anything carbide, I use the 'green grit' wheel in my bench grinder, which is normally doing brazed carbide lathe tooling.
