Does Using a Transformer use more Electricity...??

AFAIK theres no need for that. Bear in mind droppers are appliance specific, you cant use a cap as a general purpose 110 supply in a bathroom. So their only use is to fit to an appliance, which will already have whatever isolation level is needed.

Bring on the SMPSU .

That would be the smpsu using a 30p toy motor as a switching element? Unfortunately not fast enough.

The trick is to cut cost, and an smpsu adds cost bigly, hence avoiding them is the way for a lot of small psus.

Actually, they are down to same cost as a transformer (both well under a quid) at around 5W power output level. For anything over this, they are cheaper and are now commonly supplied. Expect them to replace sub-5W wall warts in next year or so too.
