Yes that struck me as a bit daft. You checkin at say 1800 and physically leave at 2000. Some one infectious comes in at 2015 triggering a "hot spot" and the contact tracers waste their time trying to contact you... Now if you could "beep out" the contact tracers would know not to call you.

It does sort of make you wonder exactly who they're going to blame next, doesn't it.

No. They have already pointed at young people, the public, "the Labour party", Seabourne Freight (for going bust), and "anyone but me".

You are a bit behind its been on my Iphone since last night. I see it uses the google/apple secure API, but one issue is of course how do you judge distance merely from a radio signal between two phones of different makes? You can't of course. Brian
