You pay for what you get more or less. Look up the prices of there various boilers on line and think. Also which one offer a 2 years (or more) guarantee?

Some fitters might try to pass of cheapish kit at a mark up. This is a risky game because:

a) Some customers may well have done their homework on mdels and prices. b) Sometimes I do a fit (includes collecting ther boiler on behalf of the customer) only service (to keep turnover below VAT registration) so they would then know the price anyway.

The price total price for installation is what counts for most customers. If they quibble about the labour cost I'll simply say I'll try to match any written quote from a _registered_ fitter. That is they can get someone to come round and quote.

A lot of them now. Ariston for one, who also guarantee the pate heat exchanger for 5 years too. Quantum guarantee their heat exchangers for 10 years, but that is a class act.

I would advise against Saunier duval. Apart from S/D not being the best of boilers, and while all boiler parts are expensive, S/D are more so. They also use a lot of non-standard parts which are difficult to source elsewhere

For example, while you can get a standard pump for about £30, S/D use their own which costs almost £200

Some makers make offers like that. Sadly the Vaillant frebies go to the Housing Association/LA maintenance managers when they order 50 units.

That's curious. You were recommending them not two months ago.

In the levels of quality Baxi is near the bottom of the list, not at the bottom though. They are getting better, but until a few of the current crop have been in service a while, they remain as an "ify" buy.

Either they aren't a fan of yours or became board with the idea.....

Then to me that equates to buying the very cheapest power tool you can find. Except that in this case heating systems tend to get the same amount of use regardless of what they cost. And, with decent components, should last for a very long time - far in excess of any warranty.

My 'pricing the parts' meant for decent quality stuff - anything else doesn't make sense, unless intending to sell the house.

A boiler swap at 850 quid doesn't equate to a complete system installed for 2000, IMHO. Assuming a neat installation. But I must point out I'm not a pro, and probably have different ideas about what constitutes 'neat' ;-)

There are always 'middle men' regardless.
