CH Boiler Causing Immerser To Fail ??

Nov 02, 2006 1 Replies

A few weeks ago I replaced my Immersion Heater as it wasn't producing any heat .

Today I discovered that the replacement no longer produced any hot water .

I have a Primatic HW Cylinder and yesterday I put on the CH as it was freezing and I remember the Immersion Heater being on at the same time as I used it earlier . This might also have been the case when it failed the previous time .

I haven't yet checked to see if the safety popup on the Inmmerser thermostat has popped .

Are my suspicions likely to be true ...Would having both CH and Immerser on at the same time have caused the thermostat in the immerser to fail ?...If so I'll clearly need to make sure that they are not both on at the same time .

I do have another thermostat that I can try .

Stuart .

It's very possible that the boiler is capable to making the water hotter than achieveable with the immersion heater - to the point where the safety cutout trips. This could happen regardless of whether the immersion heater is turned on, and isn't a failure as such - it's doing what it's designed to do. If you want to revert to using the immersion heater (when the boiler is not on) you'll have to reset the trip.
