I have a floor standing Ideal Standard Mexico of indeterminate age which is working fine apart from the built in Time Controller, which has given up keeping accuarate time. Is it possible to rewire with something like the Horstmann C27.

Have you tried easing the cover off the timer unit and squirting some WD40 in it ? The mechanics might just be dirty and need cleaned.
Its practically certain that it could be made to work. They provide diagrams to replace most types of wall mounted programmers but not built in ones. The boiler probably just has a switched live to turn it on. This is easily provided from the Horstmann.
