Car radiator leak

Yesterday I noticed a damp patch on the garage floor below the carradiator and the level in the water reservoir was low. Not yet had achance to investigate further, but I assume a leaking or split hose(car Ford Fusion diesel, about 15 years old). I may not be able to getit fixed for a week or so, and I need the car. If it is a hose, wouldit be OK if I just bind the leak with say duct tape or WHY and run thecar with the radiator cap loose or off to stop the pressure rising,and carry a large bottle of water (journeys of not more than 10miles)?

You may find that anti-freeze already fluoresces under UV.

Very good point. I only look at my radiator reservoirs once or twice a year, so it could be as simple as that.

taking the cap off wont help

I once ran an XJS for about 16 miles with a totally split 3" water hose by topping up every 2 miles or so

Uncapping relieves the pressure, reducing leaking. It's what I'd do. Driving very economically can also keep temp down & warm up long.
