Cable Clips!!

Hi,I spent a frustrating hour trying to tidy up some wiring in the garage yesterday. I was trying to use some Tower cable clips (good quality I believe) to clip some 1.5 mm Twin & Earth to the wall. Is there a knack to doing this or something most clips end up with bent nails or flying out from under the hammer.So, what's the best size of hammer to use? What are the best make of clips to use? Do they normally go in with one blow?I have several meters of 10mm Earth cable to clip to a wall soon and would like it to look neat when I have finished.Thanks,BraileTrail

I tried a smallish hammer with several blows and that didn't work, so I might try a larger hammer to finish what I started in the garage.

I am putting some more sockets in the garage soon as well and intend to use plastic trunking screwed to the wall for that. However the equipotential bonding to the gas meter is a long run outside so I think I will try drilling and plugging, trunking or a wooden batten wouldn't look right, the cable itself will be bad enough!

To NT, I also liked the old type of flexible metal clips and all the existing cabling in the garage use them, but I can't find out where to buy them anymore.

Seriously, get some of these. Brilliant things! 6mm hole, hammer in, use a cable tie & they are £4.40 per 100 from SF

Its what I was told in the 80s, could be wrong though. They're uninsulated, and I gather regs now require insulated clips for mains work.

On the plastic clips I have, increasing the hole size from 2 to 3 mm gives clearance for a size 4 screw. It might even drive straight through but I haven't tried that. Leaves 15mm to go in the wall, so I imagine a

5mm hole and a yellow plug will do.
