Building regs, bathrooms, and washing machines

... is it allowed to put a washing machine or tumble drier in a bathroom or shower room?

Nothing wrong with putting one in there. Using it on the other hand.... ;-)

Only two things of use I can think of are: If a bathroom is big enough one is allowed actual sockets. And: building regs says nothing about appliances to my knowledge. Lets face it, one can drag an electric fire in on an extension lead if so wished, so a WM is positively sensible by comparison!

Yes, with the provisos that the machine needs to be outside zone 2. Also unless its a very big room[1], connection to the mains will needs to be via a FCU rather than a normal BS1361 socket, and, the machine will need to be appropriate for the location (or in reality the location appropriate for the machine) - so you don't want anywhere that will get wet, splashed, or very steamed up.

[1] You can have a socket in a bathroom these days, so long as it is at least 3m from the edge of zone 2!

But which edge of zone 2:-)?

Is that a free standing washing maching or one in a cupboard?

It could go in a cupboard if that would help (total refit planned). It can't really be 3M from Zone 2 though - room too small.

Not sure if this man cared for building regs:

If it is in a cupboard then it may be classed as outside the zones. You might have to give more detail.
