Boarding an insulated loft

How can you satisfactorily board part of a loft given the largethickness of insulation now recommended? I know this question hasbeen asked before, and I have searched the group's archive, but noneof the suggestions has really been very practical. Most ideas havebeen to raise the boarding above the insulation by effectivelyincreasing the height of the joists, but apart from the sheer effortinvolved the extra weight must compromise the use of the loft forstorage.Would it be possible (at a price) to use one of the foil-basedinsulating products, in place of some or all of the existinginsulation, to achieve the necessary U-value but with a considerablyreduced total thickness?Richard. reply by email change 'news' to my forename.

I have tried this a few times and it usually works. However the last one never worked ok afterwards.

I've heard of that and thought about it but the E, R and T keys are almost worn through anyway (the letter markings went months ago) and one of the litle white pads underneath has been lost so I'll use this old one until it gives up.

It was an interesting experience though.
