beer fridge power consumption

When I had two under counter fridges, I measured them to 0.9 and 1.4 kWh per day. The higher one was 20 years old and the compressor was on the way out (it eventually failed to start reliably). I don't remember what kind of day it was, but assume not midsummer (so ~20C inside due to heating). This was about a decade ago.

My ancient under counter fridge averaged 1kWh per day last month, my newish undercounter freezer used 0.35 kWh per day, the freezer it replaced used 1.1 kWh per day. Which is why I replaced it. Figures thanks to Domoticz.

I wonder how much of a difference there is based on how often you open them? A fridge might get opened numerous times a day, while a freezer seldom.

Yes there's that, but more to the point if you put a lot of warm beer in the fridge it will use a lot of energy running non stop for several hours until it's all cooled and the thermostat clicks off. Then as long as the door stays shut it won't run much after that just keeping the temp constant.

For the freezer I gave the old and new figures, I would assume similar door opening behaviour. I do open the freezer quite regularly, I slice and freeze bread, but it has deep trays to minimise airflow.

The fridge consumption figures are strongly influenced by ambient temp. Power usage is also very periodic, cycles ~1hr on, ~2hr off, so it makes it hard to tell. You can see a longer power on interval last evening when I would have been visiting the fridge.

My gut feeling is that the fridge figure is so poor mainly because it is old, but yes, opening will make a difference.

I would expect a fridge usage to be less than a freezer, due to temperature differential.
