balancing CH; need IR thermometer

Oct 18, 2007 7 Replies

Hello,

Thinking of balancing the CH. I've read the many posts on that subject here and see that an IR thermometer is recommended. Are there any about for under £50? One poster said they can be used for lots of other things; like what?

Thanks.

they will not give an accurate reading of a metal pipe. So either read of the painted rad surface, or stick a bit of tape on the pipe and read of that.

Well they are certainly entertaining to play with. Handy for seeing where things are leaking heat (like your home for example), so you can see the relative effects of different insulations. Sometimes they can assist with fault finding on equipment.

CPC have some cheap ones at the moment, from around £17:

It's the laser pointer part that can entertain cats.

That's how you see if the laser is eye safe - test it on the cat.
