Asbestos - clean air certificate

Hi,

had British Gas round to quote for new central heating (interesting high price) and was upfront with them about the asbestos ceiling tiles in the garage.

I said we would be removing them before any work started.

I was told that they would need a 'clean air certificate' before they could do any work.

Firstly, this will teach me not to be up front about such things; they would never have known if they hadn't been told.

Secondly, any idea how much such a certificate could cost?

We previously took advice from Asbestos Watchdog that we could safely clear the tiles ourselves, but I don't recall any mention of a 'clean air certificate'.

Cheers

Lucky escape. Now you can use a sensible installer rather one who will charge double or triple.

It isn't necessary if the material is asbestos cement (which it is). If you do commission one it will be a few hundred pounds.

That's because it isn't needed :-).

As has already been said - at least it saves you from using British Gas and their inflated prices combined with low quality.

If I get a "filthy air certificate" will it keep British Gas from my doorstep ?

If the OP is removing the asbestos himself presumably he should issue the clean air certificate himself?

What is the liklihood that the BG fitter will know what a clean air certificate is supposed to look like?

I suggest not using the "muffins" or similar border in Publisher/Scribus though if the output is to be convincing :-)
