Anyone know how to regas a Dehumidifier?

Is it possible to regas a dehumidifier oneself. I have an ebac 660e and it the elements don't get cold anymore. Rang Ebac because they have a 3 year parts warantee. They said it would need regassing and it would cost me £50 that seems a lot considering you can buy these off E-bay for less but it is in pristine condition hardly ever used so ity seems a waste to dump it. Anywhere that does regassing (north essex area) or method to do it?

Yes, in theory but in practice you'd need a lot of specialist gear so it's not worth trying. The innards are similar to a domestic fridge with a compressor in a hermetically sealed can.

Anywhere that does regassing (north essex area)? Any car AC service shop or fridge/freezer technician. There should be a label with the type and weight of refrigerant required. They'd need to find the leak before refilling it.

They're being a little economic with the truth, I'd think. It would only need regassing if it has leaked, it would only leak if a part had failed, and if a part has failed it still under warranty. Car AC doesn't have a sealed compressor and the gas is sometimes lost through the shaft seal.

Thanks for the info I think e-bac's deal is £50 whatever is wrong. Do you think a fridge/freezer technician would be any cheaper? THe fan is going, all the electrics seem fine but the bars at the front behind the grill (which ebac told me over the phone to check) are not getting cold at all. This item has had hardly any use so I am surprised that it has failed.

No idea. Try ringing around and asking. I think regassing car AC is usually around =A350. The compressor may have been damaged if the oil was lost with the refrigerant, so =A350 may be the cheapest repair. If someone else repairs it, E-bacs parts warranty would be void. I'd hope someone with technical expertise of refrigeration plant would provide more information.

If the 3 year warranty on parts does exclude the refrigerant, I would be deeply unimpressed with E-bac. Please advise if you find out more.

E-bac's slant is that the £50 is for collection delivery and labour

I had mine done several years ago (it was /just/ under 12 months old). It was done under warranty, I delivered it to them and they delivered back. They wanted to charge about £50 (as it went into their system by me delivering it to them rather than a phone call for home service under warranty), which I queried, and I didn't have to pay, as it /was/ under their warranty. It had lost refigerant, and was running hot. It is now over 10 years old, and apart from cleaning, and lubricating the fan once, has worked perfectly ever since. I was quite happy with their service and product.

My air con (portable) suffered similar overheating and poor cooling after about 2 years. I was charged £65 to have it re-charged by my local refrigeration company. It also has worked impeccably for several years since.

A loss of refrigerant doesn't mean the system isn't good for many years after a recharge, as long as ths re-filler checks for, and rectifies any leaks.
