any shed building experts?

Question

I'm ready to start to build shed number 3. ( As fast as I build them they fill up. Murphy's law or sod's law)

This one is to be 3.9m wide x 3.8m long x 2.4m wall height. I envisage making stud walls fom 4 x2, studs set @approx 600 mm c/c. Roof pitch 27degrees Triangular roof trusses from 4x2s with a single king post, set at same c/c as wall studs. Would I be advised to add angle struts either side of the king post or would the single king post do, I will be using triangular plywood fillets at all joints ? Roof will be galvanised corrugated steel. I'm a cheap b*****d. Any advice or experience would be much appreciated. Is there a different group I could be addressing?

I am no expert at shed building although I have built my own small shed to hold gardening tools. However, I do have an 8m X 4.8m timber frame garage so I at least can advise you what the professionals used. The trusses span the 4.8m and are made of 70mm X 32mm sections held together with nail plates, see the attached photos.

The walls are framed from 89 X 38 CLS timber, I opted to have them lined with 3mm ply facing inwards and between the ply and outer cladding of T & G shiplap is a breathable membrane.

Richardmany thanks. That is exactly what  was hoping for. What distance apart are the trusses?A guess at the roof pitch ?Thats some heay duty timber being used. I may revise my plans:-)If you wished to take this discussion off group feel free to use my email address

Hi FredTo answer your questions the trusses are spaced every 24” ( the company who made the garage still work in imperial measurements)  and the roof pitch is 20 deg. The position of the trusses does not coincide with studs which most of the time are 24” , however depending on openings and section sizes there is some variation in the position of the studs. The garage was based on one of their standard designs normally 30m2 but was extended for my purposes by 2m. Because this exceeded the 30m2 limit building control had to pass the whole thing from the base up the garage manufacturer did not use their standard roof truss but outsourced it to a specialist firm and each truss arrived certificated.Richard

Only thing I can tell you is a bit of 2x4 from an offcut gives way more rigidity than a bit of plywood. Or 2x2 etc.
