Another Driveway Q

Hi all

Following the post driveway woes, I was wondering whether there is an optimum time of year for laying the usual blocks. I'm thinking from a weather and state of ground perspective - the forecast is for temperatures to drop toward the end of the week.

Not sure if it's a good idea for this work to be carried out in low temperatures or with the ground as water logged as it is now.

TIA

Phil

The sand you vibrate into the gaps needs to be dry - as I understand both the actual sand and the blocks for it to work well.

The water logged ground will shrink when it dries out. Cold blocks will expand (quite forecably) when they get hot. Wether either of these are a problem in the real world, haven't a clue. Provided there is space for the blocks to expand into the latter shouldn't be a problem. We aren't talking a great deal of expansion to cope with so hand laid next to each other rather than cramped up and or wedged together between "imovable" objects should be OK.

I'd like to make a plea for anyone doing a hard standing and a driveway across the footway. PLEASE get the contractor to put in a line of tactile paving or a tiny raised edge along the boundary between the footway and your property. It stops blind people like me from ending up in peoples gardens due there being nothing to shoreline along. Whatever happened to gates?

grin. And if you dont do this do not stick a planter with a prickly bush at the side of the garden. nuff said. Brian
