It's not so much the splice, but the legality of having an open splice in a non-approved box. There are temporary boxes for sale (for locations like construction sites) with legal bushings, covers, etc.

Soil amendments

One year my mother actually spaced wire compost bins out in the beds and planted the tomatoes around them. stuff continued to be added to the bins and they were well watered the idea being that the "green tea" would leach out to the plants. Well it sure did.

Eco-friendly house ordered demolished

These non-"dwellings" aren't dumps, many are worth more than $250K. Guess we should just knock them all down as "blighted". Just goes to prove that bureaucratic idiocy isn't just an American thing.

Easiets/cheapest way to get rid of garden waste?

Only refuse contained completely within the bins are collected. If any are overfilled or contain the wrong type of refuse they will be left. The biggest problem though is the fortnightly collections. The bins just aren't big enough.

ice maker odor/taste questions

Throw all the ice away and clean everything and pour vinegar in your tray and leave until it dumps. Then just dump and throw away the next batch. Start testing the next batch as soon as it dumps, but test some and leave the rest in the bin, testing them after they have been there ...
