After 7 years of my parents parking in the driveway and 21 years of my wife parking in the driveway all so I could use the garage for a shop.
I need to get some kind of interior finish on my shop walls now that they're insulated, and I can't come up with a better idea than drywall.
I have read through many posts on shop lighting but have not seemed to find an answer to a question I have. I am in the process of building a 30x30 shop with 10' ceilings. I would like to know what others have done and found successful in how many lights have they put in.
What kind of shop heater would you reccomend? My shop is 28x32 with 10 foot ceilings. It would have to be electric for there is no gas line nearby. I could easily run 220 in the ceilings and use a drop down ceiling heater.
Just wondering if any one is still using their Porta-shop, the multipurpose tool(think shopsmith in a sewing machine case) from the 1960's? http://www.shiawasseehistory.com/portashop.htmlOr if there still any around.
My once fertile source of shop rags seems to be drying up. The local thrift shop was once a source of used, white, all cotton tees at 5 shirts for a buck. Lately these have been fewer and farther between. I use a lot of shop rags since my finishing is mostly wipe on.
My shop is wood, small, 8X12, and not insulated. I started out by closing both doors. This help, but still got chilly. Then the older son gave me one of those oil filled heaters that look like a radiator.
I called a machine shop who said they could grind a 7 x 16 inch magnetic grinder table full of plane blades for about $35 (1/2 hour shop time). The table will hold eight 2" wide stanley type blades. That's only $5 per blade and seems like a pretty good deal.
One of the nice things about lathe work is that it's relatively quiet. that means youcan hear what's going on outside as well as else- where in the shop. This morning I kept hearing a sound I couldn't identify.
M&S clothing is ridiculously expensive and places like Matalan have equal quality at much lower prices, longer opening hours & free parking. Smiths don't sell any stationery I can't get cheaper (and with wider choice) than at Staples (with free parking).
