visit to US - electricals query

My son is planning a visit to the US soon and would like to take a laptop and digital camera. I know the US voltage is ~110 (50hz?) but no idea about actual plugs needed etc. A few web sites say conflicting things so would appreciate some info from folk who know - ie here.

Can the outdoor dewpoint Tod be greater than the indoor wall temp Tw, if the outdoor dry bulb temp To is less than the indoor dry bulb Ti and Ti is close to Tw?

Thames Water "Water Supply Pipe Cover"

But is it correct when TW state that the homeowner is responsible for repairs between the tap in the road all the way into the house? Covers up to £2000 incl. VAT per claim. Seems quite low considering the cost of work these days ..... Anyone ever claimed under this policy?
