So we're finally replacing the old wood slider on the back of our house. It's on the north wall so it catches all the wind and rain, and the track on the current one is so worn out the door practically falls off when the kids yank it open. Two quotes came back, one for a Jeld Wen vinyl slider and one for an Andersen, and the Andersen one is roughly double. That difference is hard to swallow for a door that just slides open to the deck.
The installer said both would be fine in our opening, but he'd put the Andersen hardware a step above. I've also read mixed things about the Jeld Wen rollers going bad after a few years, wich matters to me becuase that's exactly how our current door died. Is that a real pattern or just people complaining online? Anyone live with either one long term, expecially somewhere exposed to weather? Not picky about the blinds-between-glass thing either, though it does sound nice with a dog that headbutts every window in the house. Just trying to figure out if I'd regret going cheap on the one door that gets the most abuse in the house.
