Can a long garden hose cause air in the water pipes inside the house

Jun 02, 2015 0 Replies

This past weekend I had to water some new shrubs which were over 100' from the house in our lower back yard. I connected enough hose and watered them. Turned the nozzle off, went in the house, used the indoor water. There was significant air in the pipes. Later turned the outdoor water off at the sill-c*ck instead of at the nozzle at the end of the hose. Went back in and used the indoor water. After a while, the air bled out and all was back to normal.

What caused this and what do I have to do to fix it?

Thanks
