Frozen in St Louis and my orchids are dying rant

If a company called Ameren tries to buy your electric company fight it tooth and nail. They bought UE and now the electric service sucks. It's almost impossible to get a human on the phone. Power blips are now as common as flys in the summer, not to mention the unexplained outages that last several minutes without any bad weather in the area. We had a couple of storms this summer and had no power for 5 days, some were out for ten days. Oh yes that resulted in a lot PR experts full of excuses and promises. Well guess what A little freezing rain and a bunch of sleet knocked out power again, some were out for ten days with temps going down to 9 degrees. My gas greenhouse heater turns on without electric but isn't effective without its blower I used the only other heat source I had, a propane camping heater but the core tem of the greenhouse went down to 39. Needles to say some orchids on the lowest shelves are dieing. Ameren! Well they really don't want to talk about the outages but instead they want to talk about RATE INCREASES!!!!!!????!!!! Excuse me but when I was a kid we had plenty of ice storms that left ¼ to ½ inch of ice on every thing and power was rarely out for more than half a day. Well that's my rant and now back to researching generators instead of looking for nice orchids to buy.

Dusty, You will be shocked at how many of these will pull thru. Not to say you don't want to continue researching, but we lost a themostat and it was so cold the pipes froze. I still have plants that pulled thru. So baby them and tell them how much you love them. Good Luck. SuE
