Whirlpool Refridgerator dispenser water strange taste and odour after replaceing filter

I have a Whirlpool Gold (Year 2000 Whirlpool Refrigerator GD25SFXHS02) side by side, however the water coming from the dispenser has a strange taste and odour to it. No white particles noticed. No leaks on the floor. This odour/taste is not seen in the direct water coming from the Faucet. Is there anything that can be done DIY? Regards,
