Vent between refrigerator and freezer compartments?

Are there consumer (top mount or bottom mount or side-by-side) refrigerator/freezers that have a dedicated evaporator coil in the fridge section? or do they ALL typically work by controlling airflow to the refrigerator compartment via a vent from the freezer compartment? Thank you. Theodore

There are a bunch of them. Do a search for dual compressor refrigerators and you will see LG, Bosch 800 series, and a few others.

Thank you, as I was not aware these things even existed. Much more expensive than typical models.

Just curious, why do you need separate cooling?

The ones with one compressor have a lever to change how much cold air goes from the section with the cooling parts to the other section. Doesn't that work?

Just trying to educate myself on how these things work. And whether I need to buy a new one. My fridge keeps freezing the stuff on the top shelf of the fridge compartment every now and then. That's where the vent is from the freezer. But I can't figure out if this is typical for everyone's fridge in the universe, or a peculiarity of my fridge in particular.

Couple of possibilities.

  1. Temperature is set too low. Mine is 37/0
  2. Air flow is not directed properly. Should there be a baffle or grille? Check both inlet and outlet.

That occasionally happens in my Kitchenaid side-by-side, it's a $2800 model. I have the temp set to 38F. It's really only noticeable if for some reason something like lettuce is left on the left side of one of the shelves, where it normally would not be. Same thing might happen in a dual compressor model, IDK. Seems the issue is non-uniform temp distribution. They certainly can cut off the cold air coming from the freezer just as easily as turning off a compressor.
