Skylights

Hey, A budyd of mine has a litle problem with a skylight he has. It is about 2 by 4 1/2 - 5 feet and it consists of the actual window (relatively flush with the roof) and a transparent cover which is plastic that sits over the window itself. So there is kind of a bi-layer thing going on. Anyway, the plastic cracked. Fortunately the window is still in tact. My questions are: 1). Is it possible for a layperson to fix it? I consider myself reasonably handy.....(it doesn't seem like a complex job) 2). Failing this, how much do you think it would cost me to hire someone to do it? The job seems fairly straight forward...I don't wanna get my pants pulled down on the price. 3). If anyone knows, are these plastic-cover things hard to come by? Or are they relatively abundant?

I realize I have been a bit foggy about all this. Any help that anyone can offer would be GREATLY appreciated. Thanks in advance, Ben

Get in touch with the manufacturer of the cover. I had a similar problem and found it was under warranty :-). A replacement cover probably isn't terribly expensive.
