Probably. Wife also has a Japanese friend that said she would never go back to China. In my work I also hears chemical workers in China were pretty sloppy.

It isn't even true of Beijing or Shanghai. Most of the chinese do actually breath.
Fid it ever occur to your "conservative mind" that some rare earth metals only occur in limited areas of the world, and CHINA encompasses or controls a lot of those territories???
Apparently I was wrong about this, but I'm awaiting alternate facts.
Except to see where I was, but not for directions, I never really used GPS until 2 months ago. I alternate between OSM (open street map) and Google. Each has advantages but I've use OSM on the car radio most and I've only noticed these two things there.
1) Sometimes it falls behind much more than other. One time I'd gotten to the corner, turned the corner and gone 300 or 500 feet before it noticed. Being on a different street going a different direction can be confusing. 2) A potentially bigger problem is that its distance predictions are way too high, -- because it's late giving them? it says 'in 300 meters' when I can see the intersection and it's no more than 200 mtrs, probably 150 or 100BTW, i understand when you violate the route she gives you, it goes dodoloop. But often when I'm doing just what was recommended, it goes dudupe. What does that mean??????
BTW2, OSM keeps saying, GPS signal lost, then as little as 5 second later, GPS signal found. It was very annoying when trying to listen to the radio. Google never does this. My impression is that podcasts pause while the GPS is talking, but I'm not sure live radio does. ????

Google maps doesn't, it just keeps on giving you appropriate directions.

The USSR started the Tsiklon project in '67 and the US started the GPS project in '73. The original driving force was ballistic submarines; you can't hit s*it with a ballistic missile if you don't know where you are. When you're lurking someplace you shouldn't be celestial navigation is out, including sticking your periscope up. Sonar etc is also out in run silent, run deep mode. The VLF Omega was only good for 1-4 nautical miles although it had improved by the time it was abandoned in favor of GPS.

IGoogle maps does do it. Though the map on the radio is usally OSM, for directions I'm almost always using google maps and it does just what I said.
It wouldn't mean useless no matter what. A couple little extra noises don't make something useless.
Sure it is. At least two differnt ways by my count. The question is whether it's done or not. If I thought you were interested I'd take the time to explain the ways it can be done.
That's one way to look at it but like many 5-syllable words I don't think it explains things. The big reason is that it's cheaper than getting it somewhere else. Globalization is a conclusion, not a driving premise when it comes to spending money.
Some minerals are much cheaper than elsewhere, and some are barely available elswhere.
Do you know why (obliquely) the Hindenberg burnt and crashed? AIUI it's because the US had almost all of the world's supply of helium and we were not trading it with Germany because of the war. So they used hydrogen instead. They couldn't just get helium somewhere else.
GPS signals are not detectable once you get beneath very shallow water. If you are "running silent, running deep" there's more to the story. I could tell you, but then I'd have to [oh you know how this sentence ends]. Or, perhaps with your background, you too know the rest of the story.
Clearly, by labeling me a "conservative mind" you know absolutely nothing about my political/economic beliefs. And, although it might not be convenient or economical, there are other sources of rare earth ores not in China that could supply all our needs if we had the political will to do that. Ad hominem attacks signify that you're either too ignorant or too lazy to determine the facts.
