room painted, good job, but seems high priced to me

My wife found the contractor, set up the time and he did [what appearsto be] a good job. Everyone is happy...except to me it seemed a veryhigh price for one room....relativey small child's bedroom.I realize no one can give a bid without seeing the room, but is theresome kind of average rate per room for painting? He also filled somecracks, etc.., but still----to me the it seems I paid as much to havethe one room painted as it would have for the whole house (not that Iwas willing to go thru the hassle of painting the whole house at thistime anyway).So please...if someone can give me just a ballpark estimate, I'dappreciate. Just in 100's. $400? $600? 200?Thanks.

Before you make the final decision for that next time, give this some thought...

A sloppy job of painting...with paint spattered everywhere and on surfaces where it doesn't belong...is NOT something that can be easily fixed. And you PROBABLY wouldn't want the same contractor fixing those mistakes anyway. And he'll tell you that there's nothing wrong with his paint job anyway.

So...a terrible, cheaper paint job...done unsatisfactorily...will necessitate hiring an ADDITIONAL contractor to fix the mistakes.

You've got an advantage here that MANY folks don't have. You've got an honest, dependable painter that does quality work. Many folks would LOVE to have access to that kind of a person...cost be damned!

You should continue to let your wife take care of the painting responsibilities. She's doin' an excellent job. Keep your nose out of it! lol If you have to, go out and get a part-time job to pay for it. Its called the free-enterprise system! lol

First of all I said, "...maybe $100" -- could be a little less, could be a little more. Second, that was before the OP gave us any details -- what constitutes a "small" bedroom varies from one person to the next and we also didn't know how many closets, windows, woodwork, repair, and so forth or where he's located. If we assume some basic repair, one coat of primer, 2 coats of paint on a 12'x12' room with a good paint, different colors for ceiling and walls, maybe some trimwork, rollers/brushes/trays, drop cloth, painter's tape...that will range anywhere from $75-$125.

Now, if you already had all of your supplies/equipment and bought cheap paint or remnant paint then you could drop that down to under 50 bucks I suppose, but $100 is a reasonable amount to expect to spend when painting a no-frills room.

I don't see there being much difference there. I think we can safely assume we're not talking 20x30 here.

It's happened to me (I used the customer's paint one time, and that was one time too many.) I wasn't LOL, I was crying.
