Question about plumbing

She has already posted that it is an "oddball" 2 year old faucet and she has contacted the company who installed it to fix it, and that it is readilly accessible throgh a removeable panel on the backside of the tub wall. The parts should be free (virtually all decent faucets come witha lifetime warranty.

Fine if you want to wait a week or more for them to send you your free part. Otherwise expect to pay $30 or so for the part at a local store. (more if it is off a plumbing truck) I try to keep a good spare of things like cartridges by calling the company before they actually fail and have them send me the replacement but I still end up buying a kit now and then.

I guess you could wait for the free faucet washer and then pay the guy with the butt crack showing $150 to come back and put it in on a second trip.

Have to wonder about these guys, first one apparently puts in some oddball faucet? And then the second one shows up and says he doesn't know how it comes apart? Even if that's true, a real second plumber would have said, lady, that thing is a POS and I can put in a real new faucet that will last for X dollars. Of course it's also possible that Muggles has pissed off all the decent plumbers and she's dealing with hacks.

I just go to my local wholesaler and pick up the part - no charge if I bring the dud .

If I bought it at Home Despot they give me the parts. The plumber who supplied it should have the parts available.

Thanks. I checked around here and a journeyman plumber costs $135 @hr. I took a look at my sink and unplugged it myself. Now if I could do some carpenter work I'd save a bundle on building a room onto our kitchen area.

The service call was $104. The plumber thinks the other company who installed it originally cross threaded the hot water faucet, and that's why he couldn't get it off. Now, we have the original company who installed the faucet coming Monday after, some time between noon and

5pm. THEY installed it, so they should know how to take it out and fix it. Right? LOL

for a runaway water problem at tub: consider keeping a spare showerhead wit h built in shutoff (energy saving device) in your spare plumbing parts to a llow immediate stopping of runaway waterflow: if you unscrew a tub spigot i t might be a 1/2" male iron pipe threaded where you can screw on a 1/2" sto p valve or hose c*ck to act as a diverter and thus enable the showerhead wi th shutoff. this might give you some showertime to consider more expensive proper repairs, depending on the hot and cold temperatures at the showerhea d which will vary by any working hot and cold stops, seasonal temps, and wa ter heater settings.

huh ... interesting idea, but will that work on a Roman tub faucet?

Do you mean you couldn't turn the handle back to where it was, or you turned it all the way but the water was still comign out. I assumed the first.

By now, you've had it fixed.

What did he say it was and how much did he charge?

We ended up having to turn off the hot

I haven't had a problem turning anything off, but I can only turn the hot water ON about 20 or 30 degrees of turn in the powder room sink. It's only about 5 feet above the water heater in the basement so that's enough, but some time I have to take out the stem and I presume I need a new stem.

The one I took out of the bathtub had pieces of it falling off. Especially the threads, which are a lot thicker than on a screw.

I turned the handle to full off and the water still was coming out, although it wasn't coming out at full pace. It was coming out at about half full pace.

It's not fixed yet. We had to order a new Moen Roman tub faucet and guts because they couldn't order the part to fix the old one.
