It looks like mildew from far away, but when you spray chlorine it makes dust like it was cement or grey gypsum or or furnace soot or cricket droppings. And it wipes right off. Next time I will try to get a sample and look closely. Hurricane related or old dust? Bottom of basement drywall one room from furnace. But it wipes right off. Mildew is supposed to have like branches and roots (mycelles) and be hard to clean off until the chlorine busts up the cell walls. Wierd? Panicking. Help. Advise.

We need more info/clarification.
I think you were right with your first reference. Black Mold. It is pretty common here in houses that are shut up in the summer without the AC going. The humidity rises in the house and when it cools down water condenses on the wall. Mold goes nuts in that environment.

I'm confused by this post. Are you now saying it is efflorescence?
I'm pretty sure that you can't say it's on the "Bottom of basement drywall" and then call it "efflorescence".
Efflorescence does not form on drywall.
