Oven temp. control fix?

All of a sudden my oven is either full blast or nothing. If I set the temp to 350 degrees (or any setting), it just keeps getting hotter and hotter until it burns whatever I'm trying to cook. This is bad since I need to bak about 500 Christmas cookies in the next few days (and nobody likes a burned cookie!). It is a GE "Mark 27" Spacesaver electric model and it is about 12-13 years old. It has a knob that has "bake, broil & off" settings for the oven. The stovetop settings appear to work ok. What can I do to fix this?

All replies much appreciated!

I'm afraid that means very little. The model number is the key reference to the appliance you have. You can find tips for locating the model and serial number tag on your appliances in the 'Repair Parts' section of my site linked below.

It depends on how your model was designed and what components are used in the oven control system. It could be caused by a defective oven control (aka thermostat), a defective relay (if used) or in the electronic control or relay board if your model is so equipped.

If you post the range's *model number* we may be able to suggest the most likely component which may be at fault.
