Outside Ramp Wood Question

I am having a wood ramp built to enable me to get my lover in and out of out house (in wheelchair). I notice he is using pressure-treated 4X4's for the posts, but what looks like regular boards for the deck part. That worries me. Can/should I paint said wood with a preservative? If so what? It is free, so I can't say anything. Thanx Big Fred
